On the Boards: Stilt House I

Stilt House I is a two bedroom / two bath beach house on stilts to be located on a beach outside Houston, Texas.

The structural system is made from three recycled shipping containers.

Because of storm surge concerns the house needs to be 14 feet above sea level.

The recycled shipping containers also give the house a hurricane resistant structure.

The design incorporates a roof top deck and uses simple materials.

An “L” shaped concrete foundation is used for lateral stability and to give the entry some presence.
